A representative from each float entry is strongly encouraged to attend our pre-parade Health & Safety Briefing.

This meeting will cover the important information you need to know ahead of parade day, including Health & Safety requirements, float and participant safety, assembly and marshalling, the parade route, traffic management, emergency procedures and what to expect on the day.

We strongly urge you to attend to ensure your group understands the requirements and can pass this information on to everyone involved with your entry.

Taking the time to read the information provided and attend the briefing will make everybody’s job a lot easier and help ensure the parade is enjoyable, well-organised and, most importantly, safe for all our participants and spectators.

Please ensure at least one representative from your float attends wherever possible.

HEALTH & SAFETY INFORMATION

  1. There is only one Santa Float and this is organised by Epic Te Puke. More than one Santa only confuses our believers.
  2. All floats and bands assemble behind the War Memorial Hall complex and enter from Super Liquor end from 7.30am onwards.
  3. Parade Marshalls (wearing fluorescent vests) will allocate you a parade number. Please display this number prominently at the front of your float.
  4. Floats must have arrived no later than 10:00am (after 10:30am children will be being dropped off). Individual Vehicles can convene at the front of KFC no later than 10:30 a.m.
  5. Bringing children?  You can bring in children closer to 10:30am It is a long wait for Children. Please note that we only have access to public toilets, and they will need water bottles and sunscreen. Please watch our children carefully around the large floats and vehicles.
  6. The road is closed from 10:30am - If your vehicle is parked in town, it will need to remain in place until after the parade. The road opens again between 12:30 and 1pm.
  7. All floats will gradually be directed to the start line which is between KFC and Nordic Mobility for the parade start which is 11.00am sharp and circles twice around town. All vehicles will drive at walking speed (5km/h steady uniform pace with distance in front).
  8. Support vehicles will not be allowed in the parade marshalling area due to congestion in this confined space. There is adequate parking in the Commerce Lane car park and it is an easy walk to the assembly area.
  9. All floats must have a minimum of two walkers on either side of the float to ensure public safety. No sweets are to be thrown from the float and the public are not to be encouraged to approach your float. Walkers must ensure this.
  10. ABSOLUTELY No legs are to dangle off the back of any float. No Animals are to be tethered to a float, where they may fright and jump off. If you plan to bring animals, please contact the organiser to discuss.
  11. No missiles (including water or balls) of any shape or size are to be thrown from floats. Any floats observed to be breaking this requirement will forfeit any prize.
  12. ABSOLUTELY NO disembarking from floats during the parade. Floats must return to the rear of the hall as ushered by Parade Marshalls before participants are able to disembark.
  13. The prize-giving ceremony will follow immediately after the parade ends, and the judges have been given time to adjudicate, at approx. 12:30pm on the stage in the auditorium of the Te Puke Memorial Hall where the Santa in Te Puke event will be held.
  14. We are all responsible for picking up any float litter after the parade.
  15. All entries are at the discretion of Epic Te Puke.

Please be very careful when driving out after the parade. Watch out for children.
