Te Puke Nagar Kirtan Sikh Parade 2026

What is Nagar Kirtan?

Nagar Kirtan is a Sikh tradition involving the singing of devotional hymns while travelling through the community. Nagar means neighbourhood and Kirtan means the singing of hymns.

The colourful procession is led by the saffron-robed Panj Piare (the five beloved of the Guru), followed by the Guru Granth Sahib (holy Sikh Scripture) on a float. The event shares the Guru’s message of love, compassion, equality, selfless service and inter-faith harmony.

The parade will return to the Gurudwara, concluding with prayer and kai (food).

Road Closures – Please Plan Ahead

Temporary road closures and traffic management will be in place from 10am–3pm to allow the parade to safely make its way through Te Puke:

• No. 3 Road: Stop/start traffic management as the parade moves from the temple to Atuaroa Avenue and again on its return.
• Atuaroa Avenue: Full closure as the parade moves from No. 3 Road to Jellicoe Street and again on its return.
• Jellicoe Street: Full closure from Boucher Avenue to Atuaroa Avenue, 11am–2pm.

Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time and follow traffic management in place on the day.
